Each student is individual and so requires individually tailored methods to most effectively teach them. That being said, maths naturally lends itself to teaching/learning via motivated examples. In the past I have taught maths in this manner; via examples and heavy student interaction. I would be amenable to more traditionally teaching maths via rote should a student so wish.
